A single mother trying her best to get by... a family that lost their home because of medical bills... a women fleeing intimate partner violence... a person struggling with substance abuse... a LGBTQ teenager kicked out by their parents...
There are many ways that people become homeless.
Once homeless, people face numerous obstacles to getting out of the situation.
Ways of counting and definitions of who is homeless vary - but between 770,000 to over 1 million people each year are homeless in the United States.
Shelter space is limited and some 250,000 are unsheltered at any time.
The reality of homelessness is often not what the general public perceives. It is our hope that this volunteer group and website can help people better understand the realities of homelessness and poverty in the United States.

A Warm Heart and a Helping Hand
Chuck's Way Street Outreach (often referred to as Chuck's Way) was born out of the humble efforts of a small handful of family and friends in the Pittsburgh, PA area.
It was named after Chuck.
Chuck was a great guy. He did not have much but was rich in spirit and would share what he had with others in need. He was known for having a warm heart and helping hands.
His nephew was working for a social service agency at the time and many of the families he was assisting were struggling with housing instability and homelessness. He had begun to think about starting a small street outreach in his neighborhood, which had a large number of people experiencing homelessness.
In the aftermath of the death of Uncle Chuck in early 2024, his nephew, sisters, and family friends, decided to start this homeless outreach in his honor/memory.
